Latex Balloons - the traditional quality balloon is made  of natural Latex Rubber.  It is bio-degradable and  nowhere near as fragile as one might imagine.  It  commonly ranges in size from 125 mm diameter (5 inch)  right up to 2500mm diameter  (8 feet).  The most popular size  is the  28/30 cm (11/12 inch  balloon).  The true Latex  Balloon is very elastic and  breakages in inflation are few.   A cheaper range of synthetic  balloons (sometimes  mislabeled as Latex) are often  sold in variety stores - their  comparative performance is  poor - they have lower  elasticity, are less vibrant in  colour and have a higher  breakage rate on inflation.  Printed Latex balloons add fun  and interest to any balloon  decoration.  An enormous  range of stock prints are  available covering every  conceivable celebration and a  host of party subjects.   Matching prints are often available in different sizes  shapes and colours. Latex balloons can be filled with balloon gas (Helium) or  air.  Gas filled balloons are usually anchored with a  clipped ribbon.  Air filled balloons are commonly  mounted on a "cup & stick". Gas filled latex balloons have a limited life (6 - 16 hours  depending on temperature - the cooler it is, the longer  they float).
